Catholic Church Makes 'Stunning' Move By JAMES GRAFF, World Editor, AOL News posted: 1 HOUR 54 MINUTES AGOcomments: 2953filed under: World News PRINT|E-MAILMOREText SizeAAA
(Oct. 20) -- The number of married Catholic priests could grow sharply as the result of the Vatican's epochal decision to welcome thousands of disaffected Anglicans and Episcopalians into the Catholic church.
...
"It's a stunning turn of events," says Lawrence Cunningham, theology professor at Notre Dame University. "This decision will allow for many more married clergy in Western churches, and that's going to raise anew the question, 'If they can do it, why can't the priests of Rome?'" says Cunningham. "I can already picture the electronic slugfest on the Internet in coming days and weeks." The Catholic church already allows clergymen who convert from Protestant denominations to remain married on a case by case basis, and married priests are common in the Eastern Rite, a group that uses Orthodox traditions but is loyal to Rome. But the arrangement with the Anglican Communion goes much further. Cardinal William Levada, the Vatican's top doctrinal official, announced in Rome that the church would set up a personal ordinariate -- in essence a diocese defined not by geography, but by function, like the division that serves Catholics in the military -- for converted Anglicans. The move comes after years of discord within the Anglican Communion, which unites 77 million Anglicans and Episcopalians under the loose authority of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. The church has been racked by schisms over the ordination of women and its stance toward homosexuality. Some Anglicans believe the Vatican's move will deepen those divisions. "When it comes to elegant funerals, no one can beat the Vatican," wrote commentator Andrew Brown in The Guardian. "The Roman Catholic church is no longer even pretending to take seriously the existence of the Anglican Communion as a coherent body."
For many traditional Episcopalians, as the denomination is known in the U.S., the last straw was the 2003 election of openly gay Gene Robinson as bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire. In protest, hundreds of churches have broken links with the Episcopal church and declared themselves in line with the conservative Anglican bishops in Africa or South America. Martyn Minns, the bishop of one such dissident group, the Convocation of Anglicans in North America, said today, "This move by the Catholic church recognizes the reality of the divide within the Anglican Communion and affirms the decision to create a new North American province that embraces biblical truth." The news is likely to have a particularly strong effect in Great Britain, where there has been a tendency for years for members of the nominally Anglican majority to join the Catholic church, from theologian John Cardinal Newman in the 19th century to former Prime Minister Tony Blair in 2007. Such conversions have generally meant not only a recognition of the pope's authority, but also a rejection of Anglican traditions. That turning away may no longer be necessary. "Now you can be an Anglican and still be Catholic," says Jo Bailey Wells, director of Anglican Studies at Duke Divinity School. "The Anglicans never had that vote of confidence before." Indeed, two prominent British priests who publicly broke from Anglicanism years ago stated today that after this ruling from Rome, some Anglicans "will begin to form a caravan, rather like the People of Israel crossing the desert in search of the Promised Land." Whether that happens or not, today's decision marks a milestone in the relations between the Vatican and the church of England, which King Henry VIII established in 1534 after the pope refused to grant him a marriage annulment. Since then, religious and social battles have often marked relations between Catholics and Anglicans. Says Cunningham: "This would have been unthinkable 200 years ago, and barely imaginable in the 19th century."
Isn't it interesting how one faith group always tries to save another one when the wounds are deep? This can be good in the sense that denominations need to work together---bad in this case because it can be perceived as denominational fishing so to speak. Not only is it denominational fishing---it is also a way of further fossilizing the Traditional Anglicans' ignorance, fear, and bigotry in this case.
Nothing really will change by this decision other than the Roman Catholic Church may or may not gain a few married priests and a few more homophobes. Anyways what are your thoughts?
Kirk Cameron violates the separation of church and state by spreading anti-evolution material and Fundamentalist Christian propaganda around while proselytizing on public school grounds. So what's new? Here is part of the article about it:
Kirk Cameron Defends Attack on 'Species'
Posted Friday 25 September 12:30 PM By: PopEater Staff
Former teen idol Kirk Cameron has it out for Charles Darwin, and is making no apologies for his controversial (and mocked, see below) plan to distribute thousands of altered copies of 'The Origin of Species' to college students.
The 'Growing Pains' alum released a video last week announcing that on Nov. 19, he and other Creationist activists will distribute a special 'Species' with a 50-page intro that slams evolution and paints Darwin as both racist and misogynist and explicitly highlights "Adolph Hitler's undeniable connection to the theory." Nov. 21 is the 150th anniversary of the book's original publication.
Cameron tells PEOPLE he is "proud to bring this to people's attention" and hopes his plan will curb the rise of Atheism among college kids. Watch the actor's video, left, and a critics reaction to it, after the jump.
"Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is 'The Origin of Species'," Cameron says. "We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith."
He backs his beliefs by citing a study that found that in the nation's top schools, a clear majority of Psychology and Biology professors describe themselves as Atheist or Agnostic.
"No wonder Atheism has doubled in the last 20 years among 19-25 year olds," he explains in the video. "An entire generation is being brainwashed by Atheistic Evolution!"
The 50-page intro, written by evangelist author Ray Comfort, will present a "balanced view of Creationism with information from scientists who actually believe God created the universe." Those scientists include Albert Einstein and a host of thinkers whose lives predated 'The Origin of Species,' such as Isaac Newton and Nicolaus Copernicus.
His plan has quickly ruffled feathers among academics, who blast his claims that evolutionary theory is not compatible with Christianity. Cameron's campaign has also been met with spoof videos galore, including a popular rebuttal by YouTube user ZOMGitsCriss, who splices up the original video with counterpoint-by-point arguments. Her 'Origin of Stupidity' has recieved over 4 times more views than Cameron's.
Once again, Todd is full of hot air and his kind of rhetoric is what ultimately leads to these type of acts of "Christian Terrorism." I have nothing further to add, so what are your thoughts?
Here is a video from our Youth fundraiser at our traditional Winter Follies gathering:
I do have to say I am proud of our Youth and how they serve Christ and the world around them---so since I saluted the elderly in my last post, it is only natural that I salute the youth as well as part of the celebration of Pentecost. This Summer the Youth of FBC-Wilmington are going to Carolina, Puerto Rico (which ironically enough I got a hit from the other day). Anyways, I must salute the Youth Group of FBC-Wilmington as well as Youth Groups around the world who serve Christ, their churches and communities.
Rare Shark Caught, Eaten in Philippines By OLIVER TEVES, AP posted: 1 HOUR 45 MINUTES AGOcomments: 203filed under: Animal News, World NewsPrintShareText SizeAAA
MANILA, Philippines (April 7) - Fishermen in the Philippines accidentally caught and later ate a megamouth shark, one of the rarest fishes in the world with only 40 others recorded to have been encountered, the World Wildlife Fund said Tuesday.
The 1,100-pound 13-foot megamouth died while struggling in the fishermen's net on March 30 off Burias island in the central Philippines. It was taken to nearby Donsol in Sorsogon province, where it was butchered and eaten, said Gregg Yan, spokesman for WWF-Philippines.
Yan said a WWF Donsol Project Manager Elson Aca took pictures of the megamouth and tried to dissuade the fishermen from eating it. Shark meat is the main ingredient in a local delicacy.
The first megamouth was discovered in Hawaii in 1976, prompting scientists to create an entirely new family and genus of sharks. The megamouths are docile filter-feeders with wide, blubbery mouths. Yan said the Burias megamouth's stomach revealed it was feeding on shrimp larvae.
Yan said the fish was tagged "Megamouth 41" — the 41st megamouth recorded in the world — by the Florida Museum of Natural History. It was the eighth reported encountered in Philippine seas.
He said the megamouth was caught in 660-foot deep waters, which are also frequented by the endangered whale shark, the world's largest fish and also a filter-feeder in the Donsol area, about 185 miles southeast of Manila.
Aca said the presence of two of the world's three filter-feeding sharks along with manta rays and dolphins indicates that the region's marine ecosystem was still relatively healthy and should continue to be protected.
Yan urged fishermen who encounter the rare shark to immediately report to authorities or the WWF.
Others megamouths have been encountered in California, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Brazil, Ecuador, Senegal, South Africa, Mexico and Australia.

Here is a video about CBFNC: At 13 seconds, my friend Alecia Fuller is beside my friend Mike Goodman (in orange) who is beside my friend Tripp Fuller---all of whom I knew at Campbell. See other CBFNC videos: here.
Anyways for non-CBFers, here is a short definition of what CBFNC is:
CBFNC is grateful to be part of the larger CBF movement of God's people. Though funded and organized separately from CBF, we seek to be the face of CBF in North Carolina by supporting and promoting CBF ministries in our state and beyond, including global missions and theological education.
How to break this down to non-CBFers: I'd describe CBFNC and it's relationship to the larger CBF or CBF (National) as being like:
Although Baptists have no real formalized version of church polity, we are basically congregational in polity in the form of the Baptist principle of local church autonomy:
The polity of autonomy is closely related to the polity of congregational governance. Just as each Baptist priest with soul competency is equal to all other Baptists in a church, so each church is equal to every other church. No church or ecclesiastical organization has authority over a Baptist church. Churches can properly relate to each other under this polity only through voluntary cooperation, never by any sort of coercion. Furthermore, this Baptist polity calls for freedom from governmental control.[10] Exceptions to this local form of local governance include a few churches that submit to the leadership of a body of elders, as well as the Episcopal Baptists that have an Episcopal system.
Baptist polity also carries over into our various other assemblies as well.
Here is some other general info on the larger CBF movement:
Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Inc. (CBF) — "a fellowship of Baptist Christians and churches who share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice." CBF does not consider itself a denomination, but rather a fellowship of churches and Christians. According to its Website, CBF does not have or exercise authority over its partnering churches and individuals. It cites its valuing of autonomy and freedom as a reason for its type of organization.[1] However, it shares certain characteristics of a religious denomination, including national offices; theological seminaries that, while their boards are not appointed by the CBF, are recommended for their seminarians; missions funding; and distinct philosophical and theological views.
In contrast to the Southern Baptist Convention from which it emerged, there are a number of philosophical and theological differences. For example, in its 2000 Baptist Faith and Message, the Southern Baptist Convention stated that women should not serve as pastors. However, the belief that God calls both men and women into ministry—including that of pastor— was one of the founding principles of CBF. .... [edit] Leadership
All members are entitled to vote at the General Assembly. The General Assembly elects a Coordinating Council, which meets three times a year to plan missions and ministries. This council is led by a moderator, who also is elected annually by the General Assembly.
A Coordinating Council elected by the General Assembly meets three times a year to plan the Fellowship's missions and ministries. The council is led by a moderator, elected annually by the General Assembly. A CBF Resource Center staff of approximately 62 persons provides leadership and support services through offices in Atlanta and Dallas. Chief executive officer is Daniel Vestal, who assumed the position of coordinator in December 1996 after nearly three decades as a Baptist pastor.
History
CBF began as a grassroots movement of Baptists in May 1991 after years of strife within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), and ultimately the fundamentalist takeover (also called "conservative resurgence")[2] of the Convention by theological conservatives.[3] The conservative resurgence leaders considered biblical inerrancy and a perceived liberal drift at Southern Baptist seminaries as the primary issues in their struggle against moderates in the SBC. The strategy of the conservative takeover was to elect the SBC president a sufficient number of times to gain a conservative majority on the boards and agencies of the Convention. This was accomplished through the president's power to make appointments.[4] Conservative leaders have successfully elected all presidents of the SBC from 1979 to the present.[5]
The new Southern Baptist Convention leadership continued addressing social issues, but took a more conservative perspective than in years past. These included abortion, where support for Roe V. Wade in the 1970's was replaced with a more conservative view, as well as conservative views on religious liberty, church-state separation, roles in marriage, and women in ministry. Frustrated moderates met in 1990 in Atlanta, Georgia, and organized the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. It was the opinion of the moderates that the conservatives had departed from Baptist distinctives.[6].
Core values and other beliefs[7]
[edit] Four freedoms CBF maintains that it exists because of the belief in historic Baptist principles of soul freedom, Bible freedom, church freedom and religious freedom.
Soul freedom is the belief in priesthood of the believer and the affirmation that every person has the freedom and responsibility to relate directly to God without the imposition of creed or control of clergy or government. Bible freedom is the belief in the authority of scripture, which under the Lordship of Christ, is central to the life of individuals and churches. Every Christian has the freedom and right to interpret and apply scripture under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Church freedom is the belief in the autonomy of every local church as free, under the Lordship of Christ, to determine their membership and leadership, to order their worship and work, to ordain whomever they perceive as gifted for ministry, and to participate as they deem appropriate in the larger body of Christ. Religious freedom is the belief in freedom of, for and from religion, as well as separation of church and state. CBF supports this principle through its affiliation with the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty. CBF's other core values include biblically-based Global Missions, the resource model of discovering and providing resources to empower churches and individuals to their mission and calling, a commitment to justice and reconciliation, a belief in lifelong learning and ministry for both laity and clergy, trustworthiness and effectiveness.
[edit] About the Bible The Fellowship believes in the divine inspiration of the Bible and its authority in the lives of Christians, who are free to follow and interpret it under the Lordship of Christ. Christians are responsible under God for their interpretation of Scripture. In regards to scriptural inerrancy, the Fellowship's position is that the Bible neither claims nor reveals inerrancy as a Christian teaching.
[edit] About women in ministry Affirmation of women in ministry was one of the founding principles of the Fellowship. The New Testament is acknowledged as providing two views of the role of women—a literal approach of submission to men or an inclusive approach. A key biblical passage is Galatians 3:27-28:
As many of you as are baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus (NRSV).
CBF interprets this passage as affirming that men and women are created by God, redeemed by Christ, and gifted by the Spirit truly without distinction or partiality. Therefore, they encourage both men and women to exercise their Spirit-given gifts in the church’s work, worship, and leadership, and to celebrate the truth that the Spirit grants such gifts without respect to gender. A number of CBF partner churches have women pastors and women deacons.
[edit] About evangelism and missions CBF engages in global missions, believing that each person is called to help fulfill Christ's Great Commission. Furthermore, CBF Global Missions believes the Bible teaches that God is the one triune God who created people in God's image. People are separated from God by sin for which Jesus Christ is the Savior and Redeemer for all people. The Holy Spirit is instrumental in convicting, teaching and empowering individuals and churches to the mission of Christ in the world. Each believer and every church is responsible for sharing the gospel with all people through redemptive ministry to the spiritual, physical and social needs of individuals and communities.
Hold me now, oh hold me now 'til this hour has gone around And I'm gone on the rising tide For to face Van Diemen's land
It's a bitter pill I swallow here To be rent from one so dear We fought for justice and not for gain But the magistrate sent me away
Now kings will rule and th poor will toil And tear their hands as they tear the soil But a day will come in this dawning age When an honest man sees an honest wage
Hold me now, oh hold me now 'til this hour has gone around And I'm gone on the rising tide For to face Van Diemen's land
Faith and Theology: Leonard Cohen in Brisbane 2009 ---Faith And Theology has an excellent review of Leonard Cohen's concert from Brisbane---so check it out. And just so you know, here are some of my favorite Leonard Cohen songs:
So I finally got all my Christmas shopping done this past week, but I probably won't be posting much till after the Holidays---but I hope to post a few things between now and Christmas Eve. Here is a Larry Norman song on the over-commercialization of Christmas:
John MacArthur surely would agree with this---after all he said that 'all Christians need for meditation is the bible,' so why not the Koran for Muslims. Here is a clip of John MacArthur telling Doug Pagitt that some aspects are dangerous for Christians as they may welcome demons into their life:
John also said why borrow a term from a false pagan religion. Well there goes the idol and false god of John MacArthur, the manmade pages of the bible---after all, the Greek word "biblos" from which the word bible derives was invented by Zeus-worshiping Greeks. The pagan Egyptians invented paper and not to mention the pagan and imperialistic terms which the Gospels themselves are comprised of. What do you expect from people who worship manmade paper and 'golden' calfskin leather instead of the One True Risen and Living God, Jesus Christ. Anyways, sorry for getting sidetracked---here is the full article on the Muslim ban on Yoga:
Malaysian Council Bans Yoga for MuslimsBy VIJAY JOSHI, AP posted: 1 DAY 22 HOURS AGOcomments: 169filed under: World News
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (Nov. 22) — Malaysia's top Islamic body, fresh from banning tomboys, issued an edict Saturday that prohibits Muslims from practicing yoga, saying that elements of Hinduism in the ancient Indian exercise could corrupt them. The National Fatwa Council's chairman, Abdul Shukor Husin, said many Muslims fail to understand that yoga's ultimate aim is to be one with a god of a different religion — an explanation disputed by many practitioners who say yoga need not have a religious element.
"We are of the view that yoga, which originates from Hinduism, combines physical exercise, religious elements, chanting and worshipping for the purpose of achieving inner peace and ultimately to be one with god," Abdul Shukor said. News of the yoga ban prompted activist Marina Mahathir to wonder what the council will ban next: "What next? Gyms? Most gyms have men and women together. Will that not be allowed any more?" The edict reflects the growing influence of conservative Islam in Malaysia, a multi-ethnic country of 27 million people where the majority Muslim Malays lost seats in March elections and where minority ethnic Chinese and mostly Hindu ethnic Indians have been clamoring for more rights. Recently, the council said girls who act like boys violate Islam's tenets. The government has also occasionally made similar conservative moves, banning the use of the word "Allah" by non-Muslims earlier this year, saying it would confuse Muslims. Analysts say the fatwa could be the result of insecurity among Malay Muslims after their party — in power since 1957 — saw its parliamentary majority greatly reduced in elections because of gains by multiracial opposition parties. Malay Muslims make up about two-thirds of the country's 27 million people. About 25 percent of the population is ethnic Chinese and 8 percent is ethnic Indian, most of whom are Hindu.
"They are making a stand. They are saying 'we will not give way,'" said Ooi Kee Beng, a fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore. Decisions by Malaysia's Fatwa Council are not legally binding on the country's Muslims, however, unless they also become enshrined in national or Shariah laws. But many Muslims abide by the edicts out of deference, but some, like Putri Rahim, plan not to follow the latest fatwa. "I am mad! Maybe they have it in mind that Islam is under threat. To come out with a fatwa is an insult to intelligent Muslims. It's an insult to my belief," said Putri, a Muslim who has practiced yoga for 10 years. In recent years, yoga — a collection of spiritual and physical practices, aimed at integrating mind, body and spirit — has been increasingly practiced in gyms and dedicated yoga centers around the world. There are no figures for how many Muslims practice yoga in Malaysia, but many yoga classes have Muslims attending. In the United States, where it has become so popular that many public schools began offering it in gym classes, yoga has also come under fire. Some Christian fundamentalists and even secular parents have argued that yoga's Hindu roots conflict with Christian teachings and that using it in school might violate the separation of church and state. Egypt's highest theological body also banned yoga for Muslims in 2004.
Yoga drew the attention of the Fatwa Council last month when an Islamic scholar said that it was un-Islamic. A top yoga practitioner in India, Mani Chaitanya, said the Malaysian clerics seem to have "misunderstood the whole thing." Chanting during yoga is to calm the mind and "elevate our consciousness," said Chaitanya, the director of the Sivananda Ashram in New Delhi. "It is not worship. It's not religious at all. Yoga is universal. All religions can practice yoga. You can practice yoga and still be a good Christian or a good Muslim," he said. Malaysian yoga teacher Suleiha Merican, 56, who has been practicing yoga for 40 years, also denied there is any Hindu spiritual element to it. "It's a great health science that is scientifically proven and many countries have accepted it" as alternative therapy, said Merican, a Muslim. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Commentary:
At 0:54 Brian says that he is a plethora of denominations as truly Jesus is not limited to our denominational identity---I don't see why Todd thinks that's so wacky.
---apparently Todd doesn't agree that Jesus is Lord of all. Also in 2:19 Brian believes in the orthodox view of holistic truth---apparently Todd heretical-ly rejects holistic truth.
At 2:46 Todd once again fixated on judging others' beliefs brings up hell---though I can agree with Todd that hell is a real theological concept---we still mustn't judge others beliefs just as Jesus didn't tell the Samaritan woman that she was going to hell for not believing as the Judean Jews did.
At 3:33 once again Todd speaks nonsense---dominioninism and Kingdom theology are not one in the same. Kingdom theology is putting the Lord's Prayer in action. Todd and his cohorts at Way Of The Master are dominionists trying to coerce people into buying into their conservative political views such as their anti-evolution/anti-abortion in all cases ideologies by setting guilt traps---see http://www.wayofthemasterradio.com/podcast/2008/10/14/october-14-2008-hour-2/ for example. Brian is not a dominionist and he is correct Jesus spoke more about life here on earth rather than an afterlife.
Todd at 3:36-4:10 misconstrues the Gospel as being about 3 propositions only, which he says scripture states---but he is wrong of course---scripture states that Jesus alone is the Gospel. Preaching, repentance and faith are means to viewing the Gospel (Jesus) but not the only means---Todd left out love, service, prayer, etc. Also---Luke 4.18-19, quoting from Isaiah 61 states:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
Brian in 4:12-5:56 raises the issue of redemptive violence in the act of crucifixion which is a valid assessment---even if I don't entirely agree with his conclusions as Jesus willing sacrificed Himself in the face of evil and the world's violence. Todd however arrogantly chastises Brian by saying atonement by blood is the only way which eventhough I believe in blood atonement---I believe people are free to question the necessity of such a violent act of forgiveness. However, Todd's beef is not that but Brian's support of the Christus Victor view of the atonement (which is what the Early Church believed and is supported by scripture ie. I Corinthians 15: 53-58) rather than the Penal Substitutionary view of atonement, which Todd idolizes, because John Calvin first formulated the theory in it's present day form (by reading in legal terms into the bible---because Calvin was trained first as a lawyer before becoming a Magisterial Reformer).
In 6:46-7:31, Todd as usual appealing to Charles Spurgeon (who believed in the Calvinist heresy of individual predestination) to try to somehow prove that Brian is a heretic. It's interesting considering Todd's heretical fungelical teachings such as: that all sins are sins of the flesh fighting against the spirit/the flesh is evil, which is nothing short of Neo-Manichaeism and semi-Docetism. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CHESS-PIECE ---about God being in control (Currin)
If I were a Chess piece I would be a pawn in Your game Speaking all my words in Your Name Worthless in the eyes of many Valuable in the eyes of You, worthless in the eyes of many
Unworthy to get down on my hands and knees But only able to wallow in the mud Go all the way down To the cold, cold ground Because I’ve been washed by Your Blood I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Sacrificial Lamb I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Son of Man
You, who died for our sins Died for me And I can only be a Chess piece God, I’ll go wherever You want me to go For whenever You move me, I know That I’m getting closer to Heaven
Closer than I’ve ever been before And when I pass away I know that You, Jesus will be by my side at the grave All I’m living for is to be more Like You Who is the Absolute Truth Which sets my spirit free Listen closely and you’ll hear Him, He is calling you and me
And if I were a Chess piece I would be a pawn in Your game Speaking all my words in Your Name Worthless in the eyes of many Valuable in the eyes of You, worthless in the eyes of many
Unworthy to get down on my hands and knees But only able to wallow in the mud Go all the way down To the cold, cold ground Because I’ve been washed by Your Blood I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Sacrificial Lamb I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Son of Man
I am only a Chess piece made of dirt And I know that You still feel the hurt From the Cross, whenever we stray away From You--showed us how to pray and now I’m running on Blind Faith Sometimes people get so judgmental and sink like Peter When all they really need to do is keep--
Their eyes on Your Wonderful Face and You Are the Supreme Law and Judge of All the Land, the Absolute Truth And when we do sink, I know that You Always pick us right back up, forever, forever and ever
Well, the Cross is like a balance beam And we go from one extreme To the other Some Christians drift from lover to lover Some talk the talk, but never walk the walk Others are too blind to see what it’s all about
When God is the only thing stable in a world that’s falling apart Still we mess things up and keep on breaking Your Perfect Heart Well, life isn’t easy There are so many obstacles that get in the way But as long as You move us where to go We’ll always be able to defeat the foe
Jesus came to show us the Way And how we should be And I am just a Chess piece for You To move, wherever You choose Elohim, Adonai, Hashem For the greater of men
So if I were a Chess piece I would be a pawn in Your game Speaking all my words in Your Name Worthless in the eyes of many Valuable in the eyes of You, worthless in the eyes of many
Unworthy to get down on my hands and knees But only able to wallow in the mud Go all the way down To the cold, cold ground Because I’ve been washed by Your Blood I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Sacrificial Lamb I’ve been washed by the Blood of the Son of Man
I am a Chess-Piece, Chess-Piece for God And just for Him, I’ll go Chess-Piece for God He moves me where to go
My love is like the grave, I want to enter in And rise above it, when we begin a-new So my love, let me die in you, tonight, in your eyes of blue So that I may become alive, once again Let me in your temple to taste the wine For it’s there that I’ve been seeking for to find
Eyes like rain and lips like smoke In you lies my only hope Building up and destroying time Is the only way to make up your mind In this electric ghost land, where we wander and fall
My colors have all gone gray from trying to find my way The more you push me away, the harder I’ll try To reach you with my intimate prayer inside For you can kick the darkness outta the night, until it bleeds like the day In this electric ghost land, where we wander and fall
It’s a little too much for me, a simple touch helps me to feel For in your eyes like wine, I have found what is real There the Truth and the Light shine In the colors of your mind like a sacred sunshine In this electric ghost land, where we wander and fall
My love is like the grave, I want to enter in And rise above it, when we begin a new life So my love, let me die in you, in your arms, tonight So that I may become alive, once again Let me in your temple to taste the wine For it’s there that I’ve been seeking for to find
In you, I’ve found my salvation, my celebration My benediction, my conviction, my holiday My first aid, my secret dreams, my convocation For in you all my fears and pains are taken away In this electric ghost land, where we stumble and fall
In you, I’ve found the shelter over my head The comforter for my bed, my broken piece of bread In you, there’s a communion of faith that tears away all doubt In you, I’ve found my exit, my only way out In this electric ghost land, where we stumble and fall
In you, my candle can be set a-glow through an icy winter rain, through snow Selfless deliverer, fill up my flask with your soul’s wine Self-full giver, I’m standing at your bars, save me from dying For you are the only one that I really want to know In this electric ghost land, where we stumble and fall
My love is like the grave, yeah, my love is like the grave, I want to enter in And rise above it, rise above it, when we begin once more So my love, let me die in you, die in you, tonight, it’s all I’m living for (To be tied down to you, so that I may be truly free) So that I may become alive, become alive, once again (And so that we can become what we were made to be) Let me in your temple to taste the wine, your sweetly divine wine For it’s there that I’ve been seeking for to find, seeking for to find..............

My death waits like an old Drouet So confident I'll go his way Whistle to him and the passing time My death waits like a Bible truth At the funeral of my youth We drank for that and the passing time My death waits like a witch at night As surely as our love is bright Let's not think about the passing time
CHORUS: But whatever lies behind the door There is nothing much to do Angel or devil, I don't care For in front of that door, there is you
My death waits like a beggar blind Who sees the world through an unlit mind Throw him a dime for the passing time My death waits there between your thighs Your cool fingers will close my eyes Let's not think of that and the passing time My death waits to allow my friends A few good times before it ends So let's drink to that and the passing time
CHORUS
My death waits there among the leaves In magician's mysterious sleeves Rabbits and dogs and the passing time My death waits there among the flowers Where the blackest shadow, blackest shadow cowers Let's pick lilacs for the passing time My death waits there in a double bed Sails of oblivion at my head So pull up the sheets against the passing time
He looked beneath his shirt today There was a wound in his flesh so deep and wide From the wound a lovely flower grew From somewhere deep inside He turned around to face his mother To show her the wound in his breast that burned like a brand But the sword that cut him open Was the sword in his mother's hand
Every day another miracle Only death will tear us apart To sacrifice a life for yours I'd be the blood of the Lazarus heart The blood of the Lazarus heart
Though the sword was his protection The wound itself would give him power The power to remake himself at the time of his darkest hour She said the wound would give him courage and pain The kind of pain that you can't hide From the wound a lovely flower grew From somewhere deep inside
Every day another miracle Only death will keep us apart To sacrifice a life for yours I'd be the blood of the Lazarus heart The blood of the Lazarus heart
Birds on the roof of my mother's house I've no stones that chase them away Birds on the roof of my mother's house Will sit on my roof some day They fly at the window, they fly at the door Where does she get the strength to fight them anymore She counts all her children as a shield against the pain Lifts her eyes to the sky like a flower in the rain
Every day another miracle Only death will keep us apart To sacrifice a life for yours I'd be the blood of the Lazarus heart The blood of the Lazarus heart
sung by Bob Dylan on the self-titled album (1961) Written by ?
The song is basically just a finger-picking/bottleneck exercise over a sustained chord in open D/E tuning. It's all in the singing... :-)
Capo 4th fret Basic chord 000300
Well, in my time of dying don't want nobody to mourn All I want for you to do is take my body home Well, well, well, so I can die easy Well, well, well Well, well, well, so I can die easy Jesus gonna make up, Jesus gonna make up Jesus gonna make up my dying bed.
Well, meet me Jesus, meet me, meet me in the middle of the air If these wings should fail to me, Lord, won't you meet me with another pair? Well, well, well, so I can die easy Well, well, well Well, well, well, so I can die easy Jesus gonna make up, Jesus gonna make up Jesus gonna make up my dying bed.
Lord, in my time of dying don't want nobody to cry All I want you to do is take me when I die Well, well, well, so I can die easy Well, well, well Well, well, well, so I can die easy Jesus gonna make up, Jesus gonna make up Jesus gonna make up my dying bed.

When He spoke to them in the city, did they hear? When He spoke to them in the city, did they hear? When He healed the blind and crippled, did they see? When He healed the blind and crippled, did they see? When He said, "Pick up your bed and walk, why must you criticize? Did they speak out against Him, did they dare? Did they speak out against Him, did they dare? The multitude wanted to make Him king, put a crown upon His head Why did He slip away to a quiet place instead? Did they speak out against Him, did they dare? Did they speak out against Him, did they dare?
When He rose from the dead, did they believe? When He rose from the dead, did they believe? He said, "All power is given to Me in heaven and on earth." A true two-chord song! One of his many reggae-influenced songs from this period. The Am could/should be livened up with flourishes in the G-direction, underlining the reggae rhythm - something like:
or even better with Am played 577555, when you'll get that high, ringing a on the first string.
Am Uttering idle words from a reprobate mind,
Clinging to strange promises, dying on the vine, E Never bein' able to separate the good from the bad, Am Ooh, I can't stand it, I can't stand it,
It's makin' me feel so sad.
Dead man, dead man,
When will you arise? E Cobwebs in your mind, Am Dust upon your eyes.
Satan got you by the heel, there's a bird's nest in your hair. Do you have any faith at all? Do you have any love to share? The way that you hold your head, cursin' God with every move, Ooh, I can't stand it, I can't stand it, What are you tryin' to prove?
Dead man, dead man, When will you arise? Cobwebs in your mind, Dust upon your eyes.
The glamour and the bright lights and the politics of sin, The ghetto that you build for me is the one you end up in, The race of the engine that overrules your heart, Ooh, I can't stand it, I can't stand it, Pretending that you're so smart.
Dead man, dead man, When will you arise? Cobwebs in your mind, Dust upon your eyes.
What are you tryin' to overpower me with, the doctrine or the gun? My back is already to the wall, where can I run? The tuxedo that you're wearin', the flower in your lapel, Ooh, I can't stand it, I can't stand it, You wanna take me down to hell.
Dead man, dead man, When will you arise? Cobwebs in your mind, Dust upon your eyes.
All is quiet on New Year's Day A world in white gets underway I want to be with you Be with you night and day Nothing changes on New Year's Day On New Year's Day
I will be with you again I will be with you again
Under a blood red sky A crowd has gathered in black and white Arms entwined, the chosen few The newspapers says, says Say it's true it's true... And we can break through Though torn in two We can be one
I...I will begin again I...I will begin again
Oh... Maybe the time is right Oh...maybe tonight...
I will be with you again I will be with you again
And so we're told this is the golden age And gold is the reason for the wars we wage Though I want to be with you Be with you night and day Nothing changes On New Year's Day On New Year's Day
Oh, the city's alight With lovers and lies Bright blue eyes Oh, the city is bright It's brighter than day tonight
Surrender, Surrender Surrender, Surrender
Sadie said she couldn't work out What it was all about And so she let go Now Sadie's on the street And the people she meets you know She tried to be a good girl and a good wife Raise a good family Lead a good life It's not good enough She got herself up on the 48th floor Gotta find out Find out what she's living for
Surrender, Surrender Surrender, Surrender
Tonight...
Oh, the city's afire A passionate flame It knows me by name Oh, the city's desire To take me for more and more It's in the street, getting under my feet It's in the air, it's everywhere My love for you It's in the things I do and say If I wanna live I gotta Die to myself someday
Papa sing my sing my sing my song Papa sing my sing my sing my song...
Love rescue me Come forth and speak to me Raise me up and don't let me fall No man is my enemy My own hands imprison me Love rescue me
Many strangers have I met On the road to my regret Many lost who seek to find themselves in me They ask me to reveal The very thoughts they would conceal Love rescue me
And the sun in the sky Makes a shadow of you and I Stretching out as the sun sinks in the sea I'm here without a name In the palace of my shame Said, love rescue me
In the cold mirror of a glass I see my reflection pass See the dark shades of what I used to be See the purple of her eyes The scarlet of my lies Love rescue me
Yea, though I walk In the valley of shadow Yea, I will fear no evil I have cursed thy rod and staff They no longer comfort me Love rescue me
Sha la la...sha la la la Sha la la la...ha la la... Sha la la la...sha la la la Sha la la la...sha la la Sha la la la...sha la la la Sha la la... I said love, love rescue me
I said love Climb up the mountains, said love I said love, oh my love On the hill of the son I'm on the eve of a storm And my word you must believe in Oh, I said love, rescue me Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah...
Yeah I'm here without a name In the palace of my shame I said love rescue me
I've conquered my past The future is here at last I stand at the entrance To a new world I can see The ruins to the right of me Will soon have lost sight of me Love rescue me
Is it getting better Or do you feel the same Will it make it easier on you now You got someone to blame You say...
One love One life When it's one need In the night One love We get to share it Leaves you baby if you Don't care for it
Did I disappoint you Or leave a bad taste in your mouth You act like you never had love And you want me to go without Well it's...
Too late Tonight To drag the past out into the light We're one, but we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other One...
Have you come here for forgiveness Have you come to raise the dead Have you come here to play Jesus To the lepers in your head
Did I ask too much More than a lot You gave me nothing Now it's all I got We're one But we're not the same Well we Hurt each other Then we do it again You say Love is a temple Love a higher law Love is a temple Love the higher law You ask me to enter But then you make me crawl And I can't be holding on To what you got When all you got is hurt
One love One blood One life You got to do what you should One life With each other Sisters Brothers One life But we're not the same We get to Carry each other Carry each other
Jesus, Jesus help me I'm alone in this world And a fucked up world it is too Tell me, tell me the story The one about eternity And the way it's all gonna be
Wake up, wake up dead man Wake up, wake up dead man
Jesus, I'm waiting here boss I know you're looking out for us But maybe your hands aren't free Your father, He made the world in seven He's in charge of heaven Will you put in a word in for me
Wake up, wake up dead man Wake up, wake up dead man
Listen to your words they'll tell you what to do Listen over the rhythm that's confusing you Listen to the reed in the saxophone Listen over the hum of the radio Listen over sounds of blades in rotation Listen through the traffic and circulation Listen as hope and peace try to rhyme Listen over marching bands playing out their time
Wake up, wake up dead man Wake up, wake up dead man
Jesus, were you just around the corner Did You think to try and warn her Or are you working on something new If there's an order in all of this disorder Is it like a tape recorder Can we rewind it just once more
Wake up, wake up dead man Wake up, wake up dead man Wake up, wake up dead man
Lloyd George Geering ONZ, PCNZM, CBE is a New Zealand theologian born in Rangiora, Canterbury, New Zealand, on February 26, 1918. He is Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
Geering 'came in to the Christian tradition' in 1937.
He holds a D.D. from the University of Otago, a Masters Degree in Mathematics and was a minister in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand and turned to theological teaching in 1956.
Geering is a controversial commentator on theological issues and considers Christian and Muslim fundamentalism to be social evils.
In 1967 Professor Geering gained a high profile when in 1967 he was charged with "doctrinal error and disturbing the peace and unity of the (Presbyterian) church". He was acquitted on both counts by the 1967 General Assembly of the PCANZ. The charges were brought by a group of conservative laymen and a conservative minister. During his "trial" he claimed that the remains of Jesus lay somewhere in Palestine, and that the resurrection had been wrongfully interpreted by churches as a resuscitation of the body of Jesus. He also rejects the notion that God is a supernatural being who created and continues to look over the world.[1]
He is a member of the Jesus Seminar and a participant in the program Living the Questions, an alternative to the Evangelical Alpha course; he is also a member of the Sea of Faith Network (New Zealand).
He was honored in 1988 as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire and in 2001 as Principal Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit. In the 2007 New Year Honours List he was made a Member of the Order of New Zealand.
Geering is a patron of the Coalition for Open Government.
------------------- Although I don't agree with everything Dr. Geering says, he does present an interesting alternative take on Christianity.
